  • Survey your visitors for more meaningful Web Analytics

If you’ve heard me speak about Web Analytics at a search engine conference, you likely have heard me say that Web analytics can give you the what and the where, but not they why. Too many w’s for you? Web analytics measures metrics of what visitors do when then come to your site and from where they came. However, they do not tell you at which stage of the buyer behavior process your visitors are or why he or she came to [...]

  • Motorola DROID Bionic home screen

Sitting in a meeting, taking notes with Evernote and writing a blog post in two different tabs in Firefox, I have completely forgotten that my MacBook is still sitting in my bag, untouched. This is just one of my incredible experiences with the new Motorola DROID Bionic. Its a dual-core phone with a GB of memory. It’s on Verizon’s 4G LTE network. Of course it is fast. The big draw for me, however, was always the intrigue of being able [...]

According to the Rumor mill and a recent Engadget post, Research In Motion (RIM) – creators of the BlackBerry – are close to releasing its infamous BlackBerry Messenger service on other platforms and devices. In what appears to be a second move to counter Blekko’s content farm exclusions, last night Google their “pretty big algorithmic improvement” to their ranking. I performed typical searches to check ranking on various sites I watch, and it would appear that Google has removed many of the same sites Blekko already had. Specifically, I’ve noticed the lesser placement of 123people.com and experts-exchange.com. A bunch of other scrapers also appear to be missing from the first page of the  SERPs. [...]

Why Beck’s Google Boycott is Undeniably Hypocritical

Posted by Thom On February 18, 2011         1 Comment

Beck has been on a rant against Google this past week, accusing the search giant of being a “shill” for the US government. Now he’s claiming “not leading a boycott” but he’s “not so sure” that he wants “to use their products any more than” he has to. He even has a featured story on his site titled “From the show: Reduce your Google use.” While he won’t call it a boycott, he is certainly advocating  to get his faithful [...]

Google’s New Nav Bar and the New Bing Bar

Posted by Thom On February 17, 2011         0 Comment

Both Google and Bing put out toolbars of sorts. Bing’s announcement had an accompanying video created by the Bing project manager in everyday clothes, similar to a Google project manager video. But neither is copying the other, right?
